  3. Donor care specialist will review results and determine the best way for you to donate.

  4. Relax while your specialist prepares materials and equipment.

  5. Specialist will clean an area on your arm and insert a sterile needle to begin.

  6. Samples of your blood will be collected for testing.

  7. You will then complete the whole blood donation process, which can take up to 15 minutes (usually 1O).

Donor Eligibility & Rewards Information

$20,000 Giveaway
The chance to win a $20,000 prepaid gift card is for participating donors who come to donate from Monday, Dec. 1 through Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at any Vitalant blood drive or donation center.

Donors must have a valid email address in their Vitalant donor record to get the redemption email to claim the prepaid gift card.

Giveaway is open to U.S. residents who are at least 18 years of age on the date of the selection of the prize winners (on or around Jan. 8, 2026).
On or around Jan. 8, 2026, one winner will be randomly selected in a drawing to receive a $20,000 prepaid gift card of their choice.

Some donors may qualify for additional promotions during this same time frame.
 

FAQs

Am I eligible to donate blood?
The majority of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood, but only about 3% actually do. Find out if you're eligible.
Is donating blood safe?
Donating blood is safe. Sterile, disposable needles and supplies are used once and then properly disposed. You cannot contract any infectious disease by donating blood.
How long does it take to donate whole blood?
It takes about an hour from completing the health history questionnaire through the medical screening and post-donation refreshments and snacks. The donation itself only takes about 10 minutes.
What happens to my blood after donation?
Following your donation, your transformative gift is typed, tested, processed, stored and distributed to patients who need it in the hospitals we serve. You’ll feel proud knowing you’ve saved up to three lives. When you do good for others, you do good for yourself!

*Terms and conditions apply; see official rules. Donors who come to donate whole blood, Power Red, platelets or plasma with Vitalant during the promotional time frame (Dec. 1-31, 2025) and complete a donor eligibility interview will automatically qualify for the random drawing. Only one donation entry is permitted per person per day, up to five (5) times during the promotional period. One (1) winner will be randomly selected in the drawing on or around Jan. 8, 2026, and notified using the email address provided to Vitalant. Valid email address is required. Giveaway is open to U.S. residents who are at least 18 years of age on the date of the selection of the prize winner. Instructions on how to redeem the $20,000 prepaid gift card will be sent to the email address listed in the winner’s Vitalant donor record or otherwise provided. Offer is non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. Void where prohibited. Offer is subject to change at any time during the promotional time frame. Giveaway begins Dec. 1, 2025, and ends Dec. 31, 2025. Some donors may qualify for an additional promotion during this same time frame.
