  4. Relax while your specialist prepares materials and equipment.

  5. Specialist will clean an area on your arm and insert a sterile needle to begin.

  7. You will then complete the whole blood donation process, which can take up to 15 minutes (usually 1O).

Donor Eligibility & Rewards Information

Earn a $15 Gift Card
All donors who come to give blood, platelets or plasma Feb. 1-28, using code GIVELOVE-2026-V when scheduling, will receive a $15 Rewards gift card* in appreciation. BONUS: Donate Feb. 14-16 and receive an additional $10 Rewards gift card^ for $25 total.

Physical gift cards will NOT be handed out at the blood donation location.

Donors must use promo code GIVELOVE-2026-V when scheduling their Feb. 1-28 appointment (or a staff member can add it for them) PRIOR to their donation to receive bonus points for the $15 gift card. Donor Rewards program opt-in is required.

For qualifying donations Feb. 14-16, donors will automatically receive bonus points for a $10 gift card. NOTE: To receive the combined $25 in gift cards, promo code GIVELOVE-2026-V is required when scheduling.

Donors must have a valid email address in their Vitalant donor record.
While most bonus points for the gift card/s will appear in donor accounts about a week after donation, it could take an additional week for them to be loaded and available to redeem in the online donor store.

Donors must log in to their donor accounts to access the online donor store to redeem their points for the gift cards.

Some donors may qualify for additional promotions during this same time frame.
 
 

FAQs

Am I eligible to donate blood?
The majority of the U.S. population is eligible to give blood, but only about 3% actually do. Find out if you're eligible.
Is donating blood safe?
Donating blood is safe. Sterile, disposable needles and supplies are used once and then properly disposed. You cannot contract any infectious disease by donating blood.
How long does it take to donate whole blood?
It takes about an hour from completing the health history questionnaire through the medical screening and post-donation refreshments and snacks. The donation itself only takes about 10 minutes.
What happens to my blood after donation?
Following your donation, your transformative gift is typed, tested, processed, stored and distributed to patients who need it in the hospitals we serve. You’ll feel proud knowing you’ve saved up to three lives. When you do good for others, you do good for yourself!
