Jan. 3, 2022 — Vitalant is urging all eligible donors to resolve to give blood in January and help prevent a shortage. Many blood and platelet donation appointments remain available in the new year, a worrisome sign that Vitalant could experience a blood shortage.
Dec. 1, 2021 — On average, blood donors give about 6,000 fewer donations through Vitalant in December than other months, but patients can’t take a holiday from needing blood. Vitalant urges all donors to make an appointment and make a difference this holiday season.

Type O blood, which is the most transfused blood type and is vital to helping patients in emergencies, has plummeted to under a two-day supply – its lowest level since May 2020.
