Host a blood drive
We all need inspiration to find the power to do our part. As a blood drive coordinator, you will encourage blood donors in your area to join you and work toward a common goal. If you just want to be part of something that helps people, or if you have a specific desire to honor the memory of a loved one, the time to act is now.
Blood drive coordinators also become COVID Rescue Team Leaders. When you recruit blood and platelet donors, you are potentially helping COVID-19 patients. We test all donations for COVID-19 antibodies. If a donation is antibody positive, we can produce convalescent plasma from it to help COVID patients – and the remaining blood components will help other patients with serious medical conditions.
NEW! Are you or someone you know enrolled in higher education? Become a COVID Rescue Team Student Leader and you can recruit blood donors who may have the antibodies to help patients with COVID-19. Due to the critical need for convalescent plasma, Vitalant is offering a limited-time scholarship to individual students who coordinate a successful virtual blood drive and meet the minimum scholarship criteria. Read more about the need for convalescent plasma from the U.S. Surgeon General.
Coming Together as a Community
Every one of us is essential to moving the world forward. Vitalant needs to collect as many as 5,500 blood donations every day to meet patient needs, so this is an opportunity to transform your life and the lives of so many others. Join a team of passionate volunteers to ensure a steady blood supply for patients throughout the country. If you can inspire and empower others to act on their urge to help—where they can, when they can and as much as they can—this is an amazing way to pay it forward.
Though we may be socially distanced, we can still come together to get behind a common cause. On-site blood drives can be held almost anywhere, from churches and businesses to recreation centers, libraries and clubhouses.
We have a few basic requirements:
Many blood drives have been forced to cancel because of the pandemic. But there’s a new way you can help: You can give back to your community by hosting a virtual blood drive! A virtual blood drive allows you to recruit from your desktop, and donors can give at any Vitalant blood drive or donation center in their area. Organizing one of these events is simple to get started. You’ll work alongside an experienced donor recruitment representative who will guide you every step of the way. Together, we can help move the world forward. Learn more.
“Coordinators are part of a team that helps make blood available for patients. As a parent of a child who needed blood, it’s gratifying to pay it forward.”
— Scott, blood drive coordinator
