One Mission -transform healthcare One Mission -transform healthcare

One mission. More ways to help transform healthcare.

As a Vitalant donor, you already help save lives today. And there may be additional ways your willingness to help can contribute to transforming healthcare for the future — for you, your family, your loved ones and patients everywhere.

Through research and specialized clinical opportunities, you may be able to help advance the science, treatments and therapies that people will depend on when they need them most.

By letting us know you're interested, you can stay connected to opportunities that may be a fit for you.

Help save lives today and shape healthcare for tomorrow

Vitalant connects people with meaningful ways to support patients and advance medicine.

In addition to giving blood, some individuals may have the opportunity to participate in:

Flask.png Research opportunities

Help researchers better understand diseases, improve care and develop the treatments and healthcare solutions of the future.

Support specific patient and therapeutic needs, including emerging cell and gene therapies and other advanced treatments.

Many of these opportunities are financially compensated, with details provided before you decide whether to participate.

Opportunities are based on specific research, clinical or patient needs, along with individual eligibility and characteristics. If an opportunity comes up that may be a fit, a member of the Vitalant team may reach out with more information. By raising your hand, you’ll stay connected to the healthcare advancements donors like you are making possible. The right match may take time, and while not everyone will match an opportunity, participation is always your choice.

And throughout it all, blood and platelet donation remain essential ways to help patients every day.

Hear about an opportunity

If your characteristics align with a specific research, clinical or patient need, a member of the Vitalant team may contact you with more information.
We'll explain what the opportunity involves, including the purpose, time commitment, location, procedure and financial compensation, when offered.

You decide

Every opportunity is a separate choice.
You can decide whether participation is right for you at that time. Saying yes to hearing from us today does not commit you to participating later.

By telling us you're interested:

  • You're letting Vitalant know you're open to additional ways to help patients and advance healthcare.
  • We may contact you if an opportunity could be a potential fit.
  • You can decide whether to participate each time you're contacted.
  • Many opportunities may include financial compensation.
  • You will continue to hear from Vitalant about blood and platelet donation.
  • You may be contacted soon, months or years from now — or you may never be matched with a specific opportunity.
Expressing interest does not guarantee that you will be selected or contacted.

One Vitalant donor relationship

You don't have to choose just one way to make a difference.

Over time, you might:

  • Give blood or platelets to help patients today.
  • Participate in research that could improve care tomorrow.
  • Help meet a specialized clinical or therapeutic need.
  • Participate in more than one type of opportunity.
  • Decline an opportunity that isn't right for you.
  • Simply remain connected until the right opportunity arises.

Even if you’re currently unable to donate blood

If you are temporarily or permanently ineligible to donate blood or platelets, you may still be eligible for certain research opportunities.

Eligibility varies by study and opportunity, so a blood donation deferral does not necessarily mean you cannot participate in other ways through Vitalant.

Raising your hand is another way to stay connected to the mission, helping advance research, contribute to future healthcare solutions and support patients in ways that may still be available to you.

However you participate, you're part of the same Vitalant mission: helping save lives today while contributing to the healthcare solutions of tomorrow.

Frequently asked questions

Am I committing to participate?
No. Raising your hand simply tells us you're open to learning more. If you're contacted about a specific opportunity, you can decide then whether you want to participate.
Will I definitely be contacted?
No. Opportunities depend on specific research, clinical and patient needs as well as individual characteristics. You could be contacted quickly, much later or not at all.
Can I still donate blood or platelets?
In many cases, yes — and continued blood and platelet donation remains incredibly valuable.

Occasionally, a specific opportunity may require a temporary change to your regular donation activity. If that happens, we'll explain why, how long it may last and what it means for you.
What if I’m not eligible to donate blood or platelets?
You may still be able to participate in certain research opportunities. Eligibility is different for each study, so being ineligible to donate blood or platelets does not automatically exclude you from every opportunity.

If there’s a potential fit, we’ll explain the eligibility requirements and next steps before you decide whether to participate.

Will I need additional testing?
Possibly. Some opportunities may require additional information, screening or a blood sample to help determine whether you could be a match. We'll explain each step before you decide whether to proceed.

Will I be compensated?
Many research and specialized clinical opportunities offer financial compensation. Compensation varies based on the specific opportunity, and all details will be shared with you before you decide whether to participate.

What if I change my mind?
That's completely fine. Participation is always your choice, and you can decline any individual opportunity

Stay connected. Help when the match is right.

You don't need to commit to a specific opportunity today.

Simply let us know you're open to learning about additional ways you may be able to help patients, advance medicine and contribute to transforming healthcare for the future.
