SMFM Donate for Mothers Blood Drives
Donate for Mothers is Vitalant’s blood drive program that honors and celebrates the diverse experiences of moms through the act of blood donation. It is a special call to action to inspire and empower members of the community to host a blood drive or donate blood in honor of a mom in their life. Blood transfusions help patients in need, and they are especially critical for women who experience pregnancy related complications that cause hemorrhaging and blood loss. In fact, 1 in 83 moms need a blood transfusion after giving birth. Every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood, and every day Vitalant needs to collect about 5,300 blood, platelet and plasma donations to help save patient lives coast-to-coast.

The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), based in Washington, DC, is a non-profit association representing more than 6,000 individual clinicians and researchers with expertise in high-risk pregnancy.

High-risk pregnancies are those that may compromise the health or life of a pregnant person or fetus. MFM subspecialists work to reduce the likelihood that pregnancy complications will permanently compromise the health or life of their patients.
