June Blood Donors Needed to Save Lives During Critical Summer Months

Vitalant thanking donors with a limited-time $15 gift card

As school lets out and schedules change for the summer months, blood donations dip, but patients don’t stop needing transfusions during what many doctors refer to as “trauma season.” Vitalant urges all eligible donors to help keep the supply stable in June.

Alyssa-6.jpgAlyssa Chase had a fierce passion for exploring the outdoors until a motorcycle crash caused multiple traumatic injuries and broken bones. She received six units of blood to help her to survive, and after five years and multiple surgeries, she still has some lasting side effects from her injuries. But she is grateful for having a new chance to get back out there.

“I still travel often and hike when I can. I’m not as active as I used to be, but I try to live my life without fear, and still be careful about my health,” Alyssa said. “The accident changed my life, but thanks to blood donors, I’m still here today.”

It only takes an hour on one’s calendar to donate blood and save lives. Donors of all types are needed to help patients in emergencies and for planned treatments for cancer and blood disorders. The need is greatest for type O, the most transfused and most compatible when there’s no time to test a patient’s blood type.

Every Vitalant donor who uses code JUNEGIFT-2025-V when scheduling an appointment will get a $15 Donor Rewards gift card when they donate in June*.

Most people are eligible to donate blood. Learn more and make an appointment to give at vitalant.org, download and use the Vitalant blood donor app or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825).
