Help End the Post-Pandemic Donation Slump

The aftermath of the pandemic continues to impact the national blood supply and put patients at risk. More than 2,000 blood drive partners have suspended drives for more than a year as they adjust to post-pandemic life, severely limiting convenient opportunities for people to give blood, particularly at places of business. In fact, blood donations have dropped about 20% since 2019. That’s a decline of about 200,000 blood donations! One of the most noticeable – and reversable - changes to the national blood supply is that far fewer blood drives are being hosted in 2023 than 2019.

If you are a coordinator whose organization’s blood drives have been on hiatus for more than a year, we encourage you to restart a local blood program today and be a catalyst for good.  

As a blood drive leader, the number one reason people give blood is because people like you ask! When coordinators stop advocating for blood, the blood supply suffers – and that puts patients at risk. We know a coordinator’s motivation to host a blood drive isn’t because of the gifts they get, but the selfless gifts they give when they advocate for patient blood needs in their community.
