Vitalant Festive Shirt Giveaway Arrives During Seasonal Slump in Blood Donations

Donors thanked with a choice of a limited-edition summer foodie tee and a gift card

Blood donations in the days around Independence Day can drop to their lowest levels of the season as there are thousands of fewer donors available to give. But patients don’t get a holiday from needing blood transfusions.

As a special thank-you to those who give blood with Vitalant July 1-11, 2026, and opt in to the Donor Rewards program, they can select one of three limited-edition T-shirts. Plus, those who also use code JULYGIFT-2026-V when scheduling their appointment will receive a $20 gift card.*

"I was nervous at first to receive a blood transfusion, but by the time I was done, I had color in my cheeks, my gums turned pink, and I had energy, so much so, I became chatty and vibrant,” Sarah said. “Each time I received blood, I felt like a new person again.”

Every day, patients needing trauma care, cancer treatments, surgeries, and managing chronic illnesses rely on a consistent supply of blood. All blood types are essential, particularly type O, and platelet donors. Type O blood can support patients of any blood type, while platelets are crucial for stopping bleeding and must be used within one week of donation.

Most people are eligible to donate blood. Learn more about eligibility and make an appointment to give at vitalant.org, download and use the Vitalant blood donor app or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825).
